Method to make an elastic cord bracelet
Making an elastic cord bracelet is a fun and simple DIY project. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you create your own elastic cord bracelet:
Materials Needed:
- Elastic cord (0.5-1mm thick, clear or colored)
- Beads (glass, plastic, wooden, or any type you prefer)
- Scissors
- Glue (optional, for extra security)
I use a beading board to stop beads rolling away and for size measurement, I make my braclets to 8 inches
Steps
- Measure and Cut the Elastic Cord:
- Measure your wrist and add an extra 2-3 inches to allow for tying knots. Cut the elastic cord to this length.
- Prepare the Cord:
- Stretch the elastic cord gently before starting to prevent it from stretching out later.
- Secure One End:
- Use tape or a bead stopper to secure one end of the cord to prevent beads from slipping off.
- String the Beads:
- Begin threading your chosen beads onto the elastic cord. Arrange them in a pattern or randomly, according to your preference.
- Continue adding beads until you reach the desired length, ensuring it fits comfortably around your wrist.
- Check the Fit:
- Before tying the knot, wrap the bracelet around your wrist to check the fit. Adjust the number of beads if necessary.
- Tie the Knot:
- Once you’re satisfied with the length, tie a secure knot. A surgeon’s knot (a double knot with an extra loop) works well for added security.
- Pull the knot tightly, but be careful not to stretch the cord too much.
- Secure the Knot (Optional):
- For extra security, you can add a drop of clear jewelry glue to the knot. Allow it to dry completely before wearing the bracelet.
